LARSON CABLE TRAILERS – APPLICATIONS FOR THE POWER MARKET

• Trailer can be used to carry rolls of wire to / from job sites, up to 4 reels can be placed on the trailer.
• Trailer is self contained, a ½ or ¾ ton pickup is all that is needed to support it, loading reels no longer requires an expensive crane or derrick truck, the trailer is self loading.
  
  
  
  
• Use the trailer to roll up overhead wire after dropping it on the ground and replacing it with new wire. (Can roll up a mile of wire on the ground, in about 15 minutes or so). NOTE – The Level Winding Device comes in VERY handy during this application.
  
  
  
  
• Trailer can be used to pull wire, using it like a winch. The best reel to use when doing this is an empty conduit reel – something with a 7' or 8' O.D., with a narrow core. A 6" steel pipe works great as the core. Note that the greater the distance between the outside of the reel and the core, the more leverage is generated and the more "pull" you'll have with the trailer.
  
  
  
  
• Trailer can be used to string up overhead wire under tension. Works well in short "maintenance" applications of 1000' or so? Maybe more or less, depending on the conditions. It will NOT replace the Tension Trailers or "Stringing Trailers" that are used when multiple new spans of wire are hung.
• Moving pad-mount transformers around. The hydraulic arms are used, along with a chain, to load transformers onto the trailer deck and haul around from the yard to the jobsite and back. Small equipment such as a mini excavator can be loaded on the deck as well.
• Dumpster option is handy for moving rock and dirt around – moving rock to substations, out to poles to install around poles, to clean up spills from blown transformers, etc.
  
  
  
  
• Auxiliary hydraulics on the trailer can be used to run hydraulic power tools – drills, ground rod drivers, etc.
  
  
  
  
• For putting up poles – 1 man can take the trailer out ahead of the digger truck and assemble the cross arms on the poles using the hydraulics from the trailer to power their tools. Crews also can put all their tools, parts, and accessories on the deck of the Larson trailer while moving from pole to pole.
• The Larson trailer can be equipped with di-electric hydraulic fluid. If a crew is going to be using tools that are also used on trucks that run di-electric fluid, the Larson trailer should also be filled with di-electric fluid in order to prevent contamination of the fluid on the truck.
• The Tension Brake can be used to help with replacing short runs of overhead wire under tension, such as over a driveway or road, keeps tension on the wire to prevent sagging.
  
  
  
  
• The Auxiliary Lighting Kit can be added for night time work, shining lights on the controls and work area.
• Side Roller Assembly mounts on the front or back of trailer – and allows wire to be pulled straight off the reel and then make an immediate 90° turn – this is extremely helpful when a trailer needs to be parked in an alley and the trailer has to sit perpendicular to the direction that the wire is being pulled.
  
  
  
  
• Larson makes a Pipe Rack Kit, used when you're hauling 10' pieces of U-Guard or PVC pipe to the job site. The Pipe Rack kit slides into the receiver hitch on the back of the Larson trailer and extends back, to give you a way to support the pipe that overhangs the trailer and also give you a way to tie it down.
• Remote Control Option available to keep the operator safe from potential electrical shock when rewinding wire or when needing to operate the trailer from a distance.
